Chula Vista Attorney — A week after Super Tuesday, voters in Chula Vista will choose their city attorney in a special election. They will also vote in two city council districts. The winner of the City Attorney position will move on to November’s general election. Voters will select the top two vote-getters in both districts to become council members.

Bart Miesfeld, who serves as deputy city attorney in Chula Vista and has experience as a trial lawyer for private firms, is running. He says he has the legal expertise and community knowledge to be the next city attorney. He wants to bring the City Attorney office back in-house from its current contract with an outside law firm.
Marco Verdugo, who works in the City Attorney’s litigation branch and has experience as a deputy city attorney in Coronado and Solana Beach, is also running for the job. He cites increasing community policing, opposing efforts to cut police funding and ensuring transparency in school board activities as his priorities.
