Spray Foam Architects of Florida – What is Spray Foam Insulation?

Lee County, FL is a high-performance, non-toxic material that’s applied as a liquid to an area of the building to be insulated. It expands to fill all the nooks and crannies, creating an effective barrier against air and moisture leakage that can lead to energy inefficiencies and higher utility bills. It also prevents spaces like the attic and crawl space from becoming humid environments, which can lead to mold and airborne pollutants that may be harmful for your family’s health.

Residential Spray Foam Insulation Projects in Florida

Up to 40% of a home’s energy costs are lost due to air leakage through holes, cracks and gaps that are easily preventable with insulation. By sealing air leaks with spray foam insulation, you can save money on your monthly utility bills and strengthen your home’s foundation.

A spray gun is used to apply the insulation, and two chemicals are mixed in the process: The “A” side contains methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) and polymeric MDI; the “B” side contains a mix of polyols, catalysts, blowing agents and flame retardants that are proprietary to each spray foam manufacturer. The chemicals react when sprayed onto the area, expanding to fill every nook and cranny for an effective insulation barrier.

While spray foam insulation is considered safe for residential use, it does off-gas volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during the application and curing process. For this reason, it’s best for professional technicians to install the product. It is also recommended that homeowners vacate their homes during the process and stay out until it’s fully cured, usually in 1-3 days.
